schema accredited school

Fullbrook Nursery is a SchemaPlay accredited Setting and SchemaPlay pedagogy is at the heart of what we do. Schemes are repeated actions or behaviours children display to explore and make sense of the world around them. There are many schemes however some common ones often observed are:

Trajectory Children who show a fascination with how objects move – Children often enjoy throwing, climbing, jumping and running.

Transporting Children who often enjoy moving objects around from one place to another

Rotation Children who have a fascination of things that turn and spin – this can be objects or themselves.

Enclosing Children that show an interest in enclosing spaces and constructing fences to enclose themselves or toys

Enveloping Children that show an interest in covering or hiding things. This can be objects or themselves.

Connecting Children who enjoy joining things together and taking them apart.

Our early year’s practitioners skilfully observe children’s schemes to support their learning. Through a child-centred free flow play environment, we carefully listen to what children talk about and observe their interests to develop an understanding of their existing knowledge. Through this understanding of what children already know (schemas) and can already do (schemes) we can ‘seed resources’ to extend learning and provide further challenge in a holistic way across all areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage.
