dinkies in the den
Dinkies in the Den is our provision for children aged 9 months – 2yrs. Each session can nurture up to 9 babies; we operate on ratio of 1 adult to 3 children. The Dinkies room provides an environment purposefully designed for babies. We have four very experienced and consistent educators, who work within our dinkies room, who receive specific training related to infant learning and development annually.
We aim to provide a nurturing, stimulating environment, as close to home as we can make it. Working families may qualify for 30 hours free education from the school term after their baby turns 9months. Please check your eligibility at https://www.childcarechoices.gov.uk
We have created 10 rights for babies which we believe in and base our education and care on. They are based on the UNCRC (United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child) principles and on evidenced-informed early years practice:
The right to feel safe and secure
Babies must be cared for in a safe, nurturing environment with consistent, trusted caregivers.
The right to loving and responsive care
Babies deserve warm, sensitive interactions that respond to their individual needs and emotions.
The right to build strong attachments
Secure attachments with key persons help babies feel valued, comforted, and confident to explore.
The right to be respected as individuals
Each baby should be treated with dignity and recognised as a unique person with their own needs and personality.
The right to explore and learn through play
Babies should have access to stimulating, age-appropriate resources and learning experiences that support sensory and physical development.
The right to communicate and be heard
Non-verbal and early verbal communication must be acknowledged and responded to with care and attention. Babies have the right to make decisions and take measured risks.
The right to good health, nutrition, and rest
Babies must be supported with healthy food, clean environments, and adequate rest in line with their individual routines. They have a right to unrestricted movement.
The right to consistent routines and familiarity
Predictable routines help babies feel secure and support emotional and cognitive development.
The right to inclusion and equal opportunities
All babies should have access to care and learning, regardless of background, ability, or culture.
The right to thrive in nature
Babies should be supported to access to connect with nature. To experience the seasons and explore natural resources. This connection to nature forms the foundations for global citizenship and promotes wellbeing and holistic development.
